Mandya/Bengaluru: Officials from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) visited a proposed site in Mandya district for a new testing center, following assurances from the state government. Senior ARAI officials, including Deputy Director V.E. Pankhawala, Dr. B.V. Shyamasundar, and Senior General Manager Girish Tanawade, inspected the land near the villages of Maddighatta and Heggadathihalli, accompanied by revenue department officials.
The state government has identified approximately 110 acres of government land in the vicinity, which the ARAI team thoroughly examined. They gathered essential information from revenue department officials to determine the suitability of the land for the testing center.
The officials assessed various factors, including the land’s characteristics, road connectivity, and the availability of water and electricity. A technical team is expected to conduct a feasibility study based on the findings of this visit.

Following the site inspection, the ARAI team met with Mandya district officials to discuss the necessary land requirements for the project. District Commissioner Dr. Kumar stated that while the ARAI team has conducted a preliminary assessment of the land near Basaralu, it remains to be seen if it is suitable for the testing center. He mentioned that the three-member team would submit a report within twenty days, after which a technical team would visit the district.
The establishment of the ARAI testing center in Mandya is a significant step towards fulfilling the vision of the Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, H.D. Kumaraswamy, who assured the people of Mandya about the project. During a stone-laying ceremony for an indoor sports complex on March 14, he announced that the processes for establishing the ARAI testing center had commenced. The project is expected to attract an initial investment of ₹500 crore, with an additional ₹500 crore planned for future phases, contributing to the development of Mandya and the growth of the automotive sector in Karnataka.
