Karnataka is thoroughly screening arrivals from Omicron-risk countries: D Randeep

BENGALURU:

With Karnataka reporting another five Omicron cases on Thursday for a tally of 8 cases so far of the Covid-19 variant, Health Commissioner D Randeep has appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours leading to panic.

In a media release he said, “Till date, a total of eight cases of Omicron, a Variant of Concern of SARS CoV (2), are reported in the state.”

Randeep has crucial role to play in beefing up Bengaluru's health infrastructure

‘All 5 cases stable’

He added, “Of the eight cases, four pertain to international arrivals from ‘At Risk’ countries, three have travelled from Delhi and the remaining one case is related to possible contact with a foreigner/international traveller. Except for one case, where the international traveller went back to South Africa, the remaining confirmed cases were in institutional isolation (at the hospital) and were treated as per Government of India protocol. The current health status of these Omicron-affected patients is good and no one has serious symptoms.”

Randeep said, “It is to be noted that the state is committed in implementing the strategy of rigorous screening and testing of all international arrivals from ‘At Risk’ countries and follow-up on other necessary measures like isolation, quarantine and repeat RT-PCR testing, as per the directives of MoH&F W, Govt of India.”

‘Follow Covid protocol’

He added, “Hence, the general public should not heed unnecessary rumours or speculations leading to panic. At this juncture, it is imperative to realize the importance of Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) and follow the same, stay fully vaccinated (with both doses), and get tested for Covid whenever one gets symptoms. We seek the cooperation of the public at large in consolidating the gains in containing the pandemic situation in the state.”
