In an order issued on Tuesday, Commissioner of the state Health Department Pankaj Kumar Pandey has instructed nodal officers of the ‘108’ ambulance service that patients suffering from respiratory problems should be treated as Covid suspects and ferried to a hospital immediately. They do not need a letter from BBMP officials. If the infection is confirmed, they must be moved to the Covid ward.

When a call to ‘108’ is made, the staff should inquire if the patient is infected or if symptoms have appeared, and then alert the nearest Covid Care Centre.

According to the circular, It is the duty of ‘108’ to shift a person from a Covid Care Centre to a designated hospital. The circular said that if a person comes directly to a Covid Care Centre, they should register and inform BBMP.
