Congress undermining Election Commission for political gain, alleges BJP state chief
Bengaluru: BJP Karnataka President BY Vijayendra on Wednesday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s proposed protest or padyatra in Mahadevapura on August 4 or 5, terming it a “frustrated political drama” aimed at reviving the party’s sagging fortunes after successive electoral defeats.
Addressing the media at the BJP state office, Vijayendra said, “We don’t know whether Rahul Gandhi will hold a protest, rally, or dharna — but one thing is clear: Congress is in deep frustration after failing to return to power at the Centre. Rahul Gandhi’s actions reflect desperation and are part of a political gimmick.”
Vijayendra alleged that the Congress party was attempting to create confusion and distrust about the Election Commission of India, despite the constitutional body conducting free and fair elections.
“If the BJP had really misused the Election Commission, would we be sitting in the Opposition in Karnataka today? Despite Congress winning 136 seats, BJP remains the strongest Opposition. We won all three recent bypolls jointly with JD(S),” Vijayendra said.
Taking a direct jab at Rahul Gandhi, he said, “Rahul Gandhi and Congress leaders keep claiming they have 100% proof of ECI bias. If that’s true, let them approach the Supreme Court or High Court instead of creating street drama.”
He also questioned the logic behind Congress’s contradictory claims. “In the Lok Sabha elections, BJP-JD(S) alliance won 19 out of 28 seats in Karnataka. If the elections were rigged, how did Congress win in places like Raichur and Davangere?” he asked.
Calling Congress’s actions “dangerous” for democracy, Vijayendra said the repeated attacks on constitutional institutions are not just irresponsible but “an unpardonable offense.”
“We will observe what Rahul Gandhi does on August 4 or 5 — whether he protests or holds a rally. The BJP is ready and will respond accordingly,” Vijayendra concluded.
