8 mobile squads launched, garbage dumpers will also be fined
BENGALURU:
With the objective of enforcing Covid-related discipline amongst Bengalureans as well as checking on disposal of garbage, BBMP launched 8 mobile marshal patrol squads for each of the city’s 8 zones on Friday. The BBMP Commissioner said, “People found not wearing masks in public areas, not maintaining social distance and disposing of garbage on the roads will be penalized by the marshals.”
He advised the marshals to be polite and patient while penalising violators. The marshals should click photos of the violators, collect the fine and give them a receipt using the tech tools provided by the Palike, he said.

On the issue of waste disposal, Prasad said shop-keepers found dumping waste on the road after closing their shops at night should be fined on the spot.
The squads of 5 marshals each will work in 2 shifts. The necessary tech tools have been provided to the squads.

Explaining the rationale behind hiking the fine for not wearing masks from Rs 200 to Rs 1,000, Prasad said it was a necessary disciplinary measure since the negligence of some people would affect the health of others.
Special Commissioners D Randeep, Manjoz Jain, Basavaraj, Ravindra, J Manjunath, Rajendra Cholan, Hepsiba Rani Korlapati, Joint Commissioner (Solid Waste) Sarfaraj Khan, Superintendent Engineer Basavaraj Kabade and others were present at the event.
