BENGALURU: The Lokayukta police have requested permission from the Karnataka state government to launch an investigation into a recruitment scam at the Kolar-Chikkaballapur District Co-operative Milk Producers Union Limited (KOMUL). This request comes after Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials conducted raids on individuals associated with the milk union and discovered that all 75 recruitments were fraudulent.

The ED had also contacted the Lokayukta regarding allegations of money laundering against Congress MLA Nanjegowda. In response, Lokayukta ADGP Prashant Kumar Thakur has written to the government seeking approval to investigate influential leaders, including the MLA, under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

During questioning, the 75 candidates involved in the recruitment scam admitted to paying bribes for their positions. Based on this information, the Enforcement Directorate has urged the Lokayukta to conduct an independent probe under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The recruitment process was overseen by authorities from Mangalore University. The Lokayukta’s request to the government is based on the ED’s findings and aims to investigate the role of influential leaders, such as MLA Nanjegowda, who provided recommendation letters for the appointments.
