The descending torrent from Nandi Hills submerged the main road under 10 feet of water. The landslide was reported near Rangappa Circle, following which the police did not allow tourists to go up to Nandi Hills.
The Nandi Betta link has been completely cut off as large boulders are strewn across the road, sources reported.
No power
All of Tuesday night saw heavy rains, resulting in mud and trees covering the road. Many electric poles had also reportedly fallen down. Power supply to Nandi Hills has been disconnected.
Tourists who had booked rooms earlier in the day were stuck at the top as mud had accumulated on the road a short distance from the Nandi Betta checkpoint.

Officers arrived at the site and are busy working on clearing the road. This is the first time a major landslide has occurred in the area.
The torrential downpour on Tuesday night created havoc in low-lying houses. Local residents have complained about the tardiness of the municipal authorities after the incident.
