BENGALURU:
After all the speculations and rumours, it’s official. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, who for the first time went live on Facebook, announced on Tuesday that there will be no further lockdown in Bengaluru after the current one ends early on Wednesday.
In his 22-minutes address, which also focused on Karnataka’s economic situation, Yediyurappa said a lockdown is not a solution (to preventing Covid). He urged citizens to maintain social distancing and wear masks to avoid being infected by the coronavirus.
‘Do your part’
He appealed to all citizens of the state to follow these preventive measures with immediate effect as the Karnataka government will not be announcing a lockdown in any part of the state from Wednesday onwards.
‘Follow rules or else…’
The CM warned of strict action against people not following the guidelines framed by the state government. Referring to Bengaluru, he warned, “People will be strictly penalised by BBMP staff and the police if they fail to cover their face and maintain social distancing.”
Plea to 55-ers
Yeddyurappa requested citizens above the age of 55 to not step out of their homes and to stay safe.
‘Don’t shun patients’
The CM appealed to Bengalureans in particular and all Kannadigas to behave sympathetically with Covid patients instead discriminating against them.
