Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has issued notices to the state government and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the Greater Bengaluru Governance Act, 2025.
The PIL was filed by T.S. Nagabharana and others, who contended that the new legislation could cause further delay in BBMP elections, which have already not been held for over a half-a-decade.
Representing the petitioners, senior advocate M.B. Naragund argued that the new Act is in violation of constitutional norms, as it potentially postpones the long-pending civic body elections and undermines democratic processes.
After hearing the arguments, the division bench directed the state government and the BBMP to file their responses within four weeks.
