In a significant development, the Karnataka government has recently declared an additional 43 taluks as drought-prone, bringing the total number of affected taluks to 238. This decision comes after the initial declaration of 195 taluks facing severe rain deficiency as drought-prone.
The Joint Secretary of Disaster Management in the Revenue Department, T.C. Kantaraj, announced that out of the newly declared taluks, 21 are classified as extremely drought-prone, while the remaining 22 are considered moderately prone to drought.
The newly affected taluks include Chamarajanagar, Yalandur, KR Nagar, Belgaum, Khanapur, Mundaragi, Badagi, Hanagal, Shiggam, Kalaghatagi, Alnavara, Annigeri, Alur, Arasikere, Hassan, Mudigere, Tarikere, Ponnampet, Hebri, Siddapur, Dandeli, Bangalore North, Channapatnam, Magadi, Malur, Tumkur, Gundlupet, Hanur, Kolegala, Devadurga, Maski, Belur, Holenarasipur, Sakaleshpur, Channarayapatnam, Somwarpet, Koppa, Narasimharajapur, Sringeri, Mangalore, Moodbidire, Brahmavar, and Karwar.
