BENGALURU: The President of the Karnataka State Lorry Owners Association, G.R. Shanmugappa, has announced plans for an indefinite strike starting on April 14th in response to the state government’s decision to raise diesel prices for the second time since Siddaramaiah’s administration took office. Last year saw a three-rupee increase in June, and this year, a two-rupee hike in April, leaving lorry owners struggling to cope. They are demanding a rollback of the diesel prices.
During the strike, commercial vehicles from other states will be barred from entering Karnataka, with measures in place to prevent them from being stranded at checkpoints. All lorries will be parked at toll booths and highways. The strike has garnered support from the Air Port Taxi Association and the Petrol-Diesel Bank Association, according to G.R. Shanmugappa.
The strike is expected to impact around six lakh lorries, including airport taxis, stone crushers, sand lorries, and goods vehicles. This will also affect the transportation of rice, goods, petrol, and diesel.
