CHITRADURGA/BENGALURU:

The headmaster of a government higher primary school in Jodichikkenahalli, Chitradurga, has been suspended for allegedly throwing acidic powder on an eight-year-old schoolgirl two days ago.

According to the parents, on October 25, schoolchildren were assigned the task of cleaning the toilet when the headmaster, Rangaswamy, threw some powder on the back of Sinchana, a second-grade student, causing burn injuries. The girl is currently receiving treatment at the district government hospital.

The headmaster claimed that the girl was playing at a distance, but she suddenly came running to see what was in the bucket when some powder fell on her back. He assured that this incident was unprecedented in his professional life and he would take measures to prevent its recurrence.

Following the incident, a case was registered against headmaster Rangaswamy at the Chitradurga Rural police station. Ravishankar, the Deputy Director of Public Instruction, has now issued orders suspending Rangaswamy on charges of negligence and dereliction of duty.
