Hubballi: The election for the Karnataka BJP state president post will be held through a formal organisational process, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi confirmed on Thursday. He stated that the selection of the next state chief would be based on internal elections, not appointments, as the party prepares for its next organisational phase.
Addressing reporters in Hubballi, Joshi clarified that the process has been delayed slightly due to its procedural nature, and cautioned party members against issuing public statements that could favour any faction. “This is a structured election process, and the leadership will go by that,” he said, adding that the central leadership is closely monitoring developments in Karnataka.
Referring to incumbent president B.Y. Vijayendra, Joshi said, “He is functioning effectively as state president and there’s no question about his performance. But I have maintained earlier that since this is an organisational election phase, a fresh election must take place.”
Joshi noted that re-election of current presidents is also part of a standard process in BJP and there’s nothing unusual about it. “This time too, as per party norms, discussions will be held with all stakeholders, nominations will be filed with proposers and seconders, and the procedure will be carried out accordingly,” he explained.
The internal election process, Joshi stressed, is aimed at maintaining unity and transparency within the party structure.
