Karnataka CM shocked, says govt will deal with such cases with an iron hand

BENGALURU:

The city police have arrested two youths who took the ‘Taliban’ route to attack a man who was travelling with a woman of a different faith on Saturday night near the Diary Circle.

The police swung into action after a video of the incident went viral on social media. The clip showed the two Muslim youths thrashing the Hindu man who was driving a two-wheeler, with a burkha-clad woman on pillion. The police have not revealed the names of the accused.

In a video statement issued to the media, DCP (South-East) Srinath Joshi said, “A video of a man being attacked on a two-wheeler with a woman belonging to another caste has gone viral on social media. Based on the video, a case has been registered at Sudhguntepalya police station and a special team of police has arrested two accused.”

‘Attacker called woman’s husband’

Sources said that the Hindu man and the Muslim woman are colleagues working in a private bank. According to one source, one of the attackers took the number of the woman’s husband and asked him if he was aware of his wife travelling on a two-wheeler with a person from another faith, to which the woman’s husband answered that it was no cause for concern.
