BBMP bars apartment entry/exit; all 56 positive cases self-quarantined

BENGALURU:

It’s suddenly the ‘season’ of ‘Covid clusters’ in the state and Bengaluru. First it was 40 students in Mangalore, followed by last week’s news of 40 students from Kerala in an RT Nagar nursing college in Bengaluru contracting the virus. Now, around 56 residents of SNN Lake View apartment in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road have tested positive for Covid-19 after all of them attended a family get-together in a flat in the apartment complex.

Till this story was posted on our digital portal, BBMP had denied permission to the apartment residents to either leave or enter the complex.

SNN Lake View apartment has three major residential blocks which are occupied by 430 families comprising around 1,500 people.

A source said, “A get-together of around 25 families was held on February 6, which was attended by more than 50 people. A few of the residents reportedly contracted a fever and other Covid-19 like symptoms, which compelled them to get tested. So far, all 56 attendees have tested positive from February 7.”

An officer who spoke to TheBengaluruLive did not confirm whether liquor was also consumed at the function, but said, “Currently, our aim is to collect samples from all the residents of the apartment complex. Until all of them are tested, we have imposed restrictions on people moving around. All (the positive cases) are asymptomatic and have been isolated in their respective flats.”
