Bengaluru sees 45 deaths, 1,525 cases on Sunday; state’s caseload nears 40,000

BENGALURU:

The coronavirus continues to run riot in Karnataka, curfew or no curfew. On Sunday, the state recorded a new high of 2,627 fresh cases, of which the state capital’s share was 1,525. At a total of 38,843, Karnataka’s caseload is fast approaching the 40,000 mark.

Approximately 15,409 cases have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, 693 of them on Sunday. There remain 22,746 active cases in the state. Counting the day’s 71 deaths statewide, Karnataka’s death tally is now 684. Bengaluru had the highest death roll so far of 45 on Sunday.

Out of 45 deaths reported in state capital, it also include 16-days-old who died due to Fever, Cough and Breathlessness at her residence on July 1.

After Bengaluru, the worst affected district on Sunday was Dakshina Kannada with 196 cases. More than 100 cases were found in Dharwad and Yadgir, and the number of positive cases has been increased, except in Vijayapura and Chitradurga with zero cases reported.

It remains to be seen if the impending lockdown in Bengaluru will keep a lid on the rising infections. Counting Saturday’s 1, 533 and Sunday’s 1,525 fresh cases, the total number of infected cases in the state capital is fast approaching 19,000, with 18,387 positive cases reported so far. Of Bengaluru’s total caseload, 4,045 have been cured while 274 died. There are now 14,067 active cases.

Out of the 2,627 cases statewide reported on Sunday, the break-up is: Bengaluru 1,525, Dakshina Kannada 196, Yadgir 129, Kalaburagi 79, Bellary 63, Bidar 62, Raichur 48, Udupi 43, Mysore 42, Shimoga 42, Chikkaballapur 39, Hassan 31, Koppal 27, Kolar 24, Davanagere 20, Bengaluru Rural 19, Kodagu 15, Gadag 14, Chamarajanagar 13, Uttara Kannada 12, Haveri 12, Chikkamagaluru 10, Bagalkot 7, Mandya 4, Ramanagar 3, Belagavi 2. No new infections were found in Vijayapura and Chitradurga.

In terms of total caseload, the district break-up is: Bengaluru 18,387, Kalaburagi 2,103, Udupi 1,609, Ballari 1,682, Dakshina Kannada 2,222, Yadagiri 1,288, Bidar 1,038, Vijayapura 758, Dharwad 1,088, Raichur 718, Mandya 718, Hassan 685, Mysuru 815, Uttara Kannada 597, Belagavi 470, Davanagere 536, Shivamogga 446, Bagalkot 399, Bengaluru Rural 364, Ramanagara 388, Chikkaballapur 403, Tumkur 433, Gadag 316, Kolar 285, Haveri 301, Koppal 214, Chikkamagalur 144, Kodagu 156, Chitradurga 103, Chamarajanagar 171 and others 36.
