Minister Madhuswamy admits to BBMP portal’s ‘zone display’ errors

BENGALURU:

Coming to the aid of around 78,000 Bengalureans who had been issued ‘property tax defaulter’ notices by BBMP, the Karnataka cabinet on Thursday admitted to the official error in incorrectly displaying zones in the property tax portal, and added that any excess payment by citizens would be set off against future amounts.

Soft-pedals BBMP error

Papering over BBMP’s own inefficiency in the matter, Madhuswamy called it a ‘mistake’ and partly blamed law-abiding Bengalureans too, saying, “Both sides were at fault.”

As the Minister admitted, “We did not display the zones properly and the residents wrongly underestimated their zonal levels. In a way, we felt it is wrong to penalise people 3-4 years later.”
