St Joseph’s College of Law students and staff get all assistance from IAS officer D Randeep and other BBMP staff

BENGALURU:

Around a fortnight ago, a group of students from St Joseph’s College of Law had taken the initiative to conduct a free Covid-19 vaccination drive with help of the BBMP health team of CV Raman Nagar ward. Their laudable efforts have resulted in the vaccination of scores of people in the Indiranagar area of Bengaluru.

On August 29, a survey was conducted by 7 students in H Colony, 1st Stage, Indiranagar, wherein primary data on the vaccination requirements of the locals there was collected. Shreya PS, Vimala Mary A, Rithvik Balanagraj B, Jonish Visva U, Andrew Selvam, Shreyas Gowda MR and GM Samrat Nikhil spent roughly two and a half hours on the survey under the guidance of college Director Rev Fr Jerald D’Souza SJ, Principal Dr Pratima Prabhakar, Vice-Principal Mrs Pauline Priya and Faculty Coordinator Ms Lincy Joykutty. Shreya and Gayatri Nambyar compiled the data after the survey was completed.

It was then decided that the next step would be to approach the Nodal officer for CV Raman Nagar, Mr Randeep D, IAS, with a request to set up a moblile vaccination camp at that location. On September 4, Samrat and Jonish approached the police station and got permission for the vaccination drive. Meanwhile, Vimala and Shreya called up the surveyed locals individually and informed them about the vaccination drive happening the following day.

Good numbers jabbed

On September 5, around 29 people were vaccinated in H Colony, while 60-plus people were inoculated at Kempamma Temple Hall, 5th Main, Indiranagar. Another brief survey of a slum was conducted near Chinmaya Mission Road and it was found that 80-90% of the people were already vaccinated. The remaining were inoculated at Kempamma Temple Hall.

The team, along with Dr Sushil and Dr Yashwanth, took the opportunity to promote awareness about the benefits of getting vaccinated. They answered the queries and concerns of the locals, encouraging them to get their near and dear ones vaccinated. Fr Jerald D’Souza SJ, Director of St Joseph’s College of Law, was a motivating presence during the exercise.
