Central Crime Branch ACP allegedly gave mobile to Viren Khanna, promised weak case for 50L
In the first instance of a crackdown against police personnel colluding with drug accused persons, Central Crime Branch ACP Mudawi and head constable Mallikarjun have been suspended from service for allegedly ‘helping’ the accused.
The CCB’s investigation into the Sandalwood drug case has seen 14 arrests so far, including actresses Ragini Dwivedi and Sanjana Galrani and high-end party organiser Viren Khanna.
As per top sources in the police department, Mudawi helped Viren Khanna by giving Khanna his cellphone to speak to others while he was in police custody.
It is also alleged that Mudawi demanded Rs 50 lakh from Khanna, promising to make out a weak case against him.
Joint Commissioner (Crime) Sandeep Patil was tipped off about the incident and alerted his bosses. Police Commissioner Kamal Pant in turn submitted a report to DGP Praveen Sood and the Home Department.
ACP Mudawi was suspended from service on Wednesday by the police department. He was to retire in the next two years.
